What types of leather do you use?

First, let’s explain Chrome versus Vegetable (‘veg’) tanned leather: Leather that is “chrome tanned” is processed faster with the use of chemicals when turning cowhide into leather. “Vegetable tanned” (aka ‘veg tan’) uses natural materials like tree bark in the tanning process. Both processes are regulated to protect the environment.

  • High in quality, beautiful with a soft, exquisite feel. Lighter in weight, finer in fiber, and doesn’t blemish or scar as easily compared to cow skin.

  • Chrome tanned.

  • Sourced from two tanneries: Weinheimer Leder (Poland) and Yamagami Leather (Japan).

  • Rich aesthetic, smells good, durable, and fades naturally with use as it takes on the life of the owner.

  • Vegetable tanned.

  • Sourced from Italy.

  • Available: Python, Crocodile, and Gator.

  • These types of leather require specialized techniques to integrate and construct into pieces and are much more expensive than cow, calf and goat.
